Jesus Feeds the 5,ooo….but why?

September 8, 2018

Ouch. Some hard words to type are coming up… #lordhelpme

Over the last few months, my mantle has been decorated gorgeously and totally Pinterest-worthy. Golds, greens, lemons, wood textures, whites, wreath over a window mirror- the whole 9. Spring in all its glory.

To make my mantle aesthetically pleasing, I needed different heights. Some taller pieces, some shorter pieces. In the interest of “looking good” I needed to stack some books to hold up a wooden candle holder. I rummaged through my book shelf to find these two perfect hard-backed books at the exact level I needed them!

Yes. I stacked the Max Lucado Inspirational Bible on my mantle AS DECORATION.

This past week I took down all spring/summer decor to decorate for fall- at my husband’s request- and these books were taken down. As I looked at them I thought “man, I should really read these…” so they made their way to my end table where I do my morning coffee and devotion.

Today, I opened my study bible and daily devotion for the first time in a very long time. I normally stick with my teal colored NIV bible (top right corner) and my beautiful floral journal for my hour long time with Jesus. But today, I wanted more.

What I love about the Max Lucado study bible is that on each page there is a “life lesson” to go with the scriptures on that page. The Bible itself reads like a story in the NKJV. This bible is PERFECT for any Christian who picks up the Bible for the first time and may need some sidenotes to explain what’s going on, or for a seasoned Christian to dig a little deeper.

What I read today I have read 1000 times. It was the story of Jesus feeding the 5,000. Jesus took the few loaves of bread and 2 fish and multiplied them to feed 5,000 men and women. Miraculous, yes. I knew this was an amazing miracle Jesus performed, but had I not read the life lesson on the side, I would have missed the point.

Lucado says, Jesus demonstrates his power to meet our spiritual and physical needs. He says when the disciples saw the crowd coming, they stressed out! They knew they couldn’t feed them and wanted Jesus to turn them away! But what Jesus saw was the complete opposite. Jesus saw an opportunity to love on these people and affirm their value.

Lord, let us see situations where WE can love on people. Let us view your assignments as opportunities, rather than burdensome tasks. Lead us to people that need some love today!

Had I not taken these books down from my mantle I would have missed something that Jesus had for me today. Had I not opened to this exact page asking for the Lord to guide my time with Him, I would have gone about the day without this lesson in the forefront of my mind. I would have labored through this Saturday and checked things off of my to-do list with attitude. Instead, my eyes will be peeled for opportunities to ACT and share God’s love with someone who needs it.

If you’re wanting to start studying the Bible but feel completely overwhelmed by it, this book is a great place to start! You can find it here

There are also cheaper paper back options!

Have a BLESSED Saturday!
